Endurance Sports is excited to announce Summer Groove 2009, to be hosted in Newaygo, Michigan, Saturday October 10, 2009.


Date: Saturday, October 10,, 2009
Location: Loomis Lodge, Newaygo, Michigan
Length: 15 hour unsupported.
Time: 3:00am6:00pm
Disciplines: Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Trekking and rope use.
Divisions: Solo, 2 person coed, male (M/M), female (F/F),  4 person coed.
Who: Beginner to the experienced.


Event Cost: Cost per person is $115.00 this includes canoe rental, a race T – shirt, post race food and drink, and a very generous awards ceremony.

Special note: We will honor volunteer vouchers from Infiterra, and GRAAR adventure races. If you have volunteered at an Infiterra Sports, or GRAAR event you are more than welcome to use your voucher for Summer Groove.

Registration and gear check-in is from 5:00pm to 8:00Pm @ Loomis Lodge in Newaygo, Michigan (click on “Directions click here” for driving directions). Pre-race mandatory meeting is 8:30PM at Loomis Lodge. Registering and gear check in take time please make sure you arrive as early as possible so your team is able to get checked in before the pre-race meeting.

About the Race:

This adventure race will challenge the beginner as well as the experienced. All mandatory control points will be marked on each team’s topo maps, all optional CP’s will be given to each team during the mandatory race meeting using UTM coordinates. Each team will be responsible for plotting their own optional UTM coordinates. Teams will be required to navigate each stage using provided topographical maps. Each team will be issued a passport that will be punched at designated control points along the way. Each team is required to be self sufficient, no support crews will be allowed on course.  Entry is limited to the first 250 people.

 
Trekking / Orienteering:

The total amount of trekking miles will be determined by team’s route choices and the CP’s attained. The minimum of trekking miles will be approximately 10 miles. Adventure racers can expect some night navigation, with terrain variations from swampy lowlands to  rolling hills to woodlands. Knowing how to plot UTM coordinates is a must. Teams can expect significant off – trail sections where navigation will be tested. Mandatory control points will be pre – marked on topographical maps, optional control points will given during the pre – race meeting as UTM coordinates.

 
Canoe:

Teams will be paddling approximately 11 miles down a river located in Western Michigan. Paddles, PFDs, and lifejackets will be supplied. Teams are welcome to bring their own PFDs and paddles. Teams or solo participants will not be allowed to supply their own canoes or kayaks.

  

Mountain Bike:

The mountain bike stage will be approximately 30 miles depending on route choices. Teams must locate and check in at each of the required checkpoints. Mountain biking portion will include single tracks, two tracks and paved roads.
