Stark Raving Mad Update #1   5/8/08

 This is the first of two updates that you will be receiving. These updates contain information that is important, READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY! It is our mission to make sure everyone is well prepared and has a great time.

·        I will be updating the “Start List” every Monday. Please review the start list to make sure everything is correct; team name, names spelled correctly, etc… If your team name is TBD, it means I still do not have a team name from you, make sure to email me your team name soon.

·        Teams have the option of bringing their own canoes or renting a canoe. Solos will be using kayaks, teams will be using canoes. We will not accept two person kayaks for teams. If you plan on supplying your own canoe or kayak we will tell you where to stage your boat in a future update. If you need to rent a canoe or kayak, Wisner Canoe is the livery you will need to contact; there are two ways to contact them www.wisnercanoe.com or call 231-652-6743. You have the option to bring your own PFD and paddle even if you rent a canoe, with a livery PDF and paddle you get what you get, don’t expect high quality. “Racing canoes” will not be allowed. If you think you might have a “Racing Canoe” contact me for specifications.

·        Due to the lack of off road riding in Stark Raving Mad, we are going to be very liberal about what we consider a “mountain bike”. Bike types that will not be allowed; road bikes, tri or time trial bikes, cyclo-cross bikes, or any bike with a tire width of 1.5 inch or less. If you are uncertain whether your bike will be allowed or not, contact me.

·        Stark Raving Mad starts and finishes at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. Click on Muskegon Winter Sports Complex for directions to the complex.

·        Lodging. Click here for a link to the Muskegon Visitor Bureau. The closest places to stay would either be camping at the Muskegon State Park or Snug Harbor Hotel. Both are just minutes away from the Sports Complex. Snug Harbor has only six rooms available.

We are very excited about this year’s venue and look forward to seeing everyone. There will be very few mandatory CP’s which should make finishing attainable for anyone on any level. That does not mean we will only place few CP’s on the course, oh no, for you hard cores through out the course we have several optional CP’s.
